Kyle Wilkie
Coach Kyle Wilkie is in his first season as an assistant baseball and football coach at King’s Ridge. He is also the high school sports marketing teacher.
At Creekview High School (Canton, GA), Coach Wilkie was a three-year starter at quarterback for the Grizzlies as well as a four-year starter at catcher in baseball. In football, Coach Wilkie completed 527 passes for 7,183 yards and 60 touchdowns along with 794 yards rushing and 18 rushing touchdowns in his career. In baseball, he was the Cherokee County Player of the Year in 2015 as a junior and was a GHSA All-State team member his senior year for both football and baseball in 2016. After high school, Wilkie accepted a scholarship to play baseball at Clemson University.
In college, Wilkie served as a backup catcher for most of the 2017 season, until an injury to the starting catcher late in the season and was named to the Clemson All-Regional Team as a freshman. He continued his hot hitting from 2017 and was one of the team’s best hitters as the everyday catcher in 2018 and 2019. He holds a career .307 batting average with a .431 slugging percentage and .400 on-base percentage in 144 games (134 starts) over three seasons where he had 25 doubles, a triple, 11 homers, 86 RBIs, 81 runs, and 71 walks. In postseason games, Wilkie was 19-for-42 (.452) with two homers, three doubles, 10 RBIs, five runs, a .521 on-base percentage and a steal in 12 NCAA Tournament starts. He was a preseason nomination for Buster Posey Award in 2019 and was a two-time All-ACC selection in 2018 and 2019. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 12th round of the 2019 MLB Draft.
In the summer, Coach Wilkie spends his time coaching with
the Southeast Sox travel baseball program. Wilkie serves as catching
coordinator and head coach of the 18u/Collegiate Team that is a part of the
Sunbelt Baseball League, the Cartersville Cannons.
Coach Wilkie holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Clemson University in Sports Communication and is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education. He currently lives in Cumming, GA and attends Hightower Baptist Church.
